The Department of Security Sciences is a workplace of the University of Security Management in Košice, which professionally and organizationally guarantees the preparation of students studying Security Sciences in the Security Systems Management study program in I. and II. degree of university studies in full-time and part-time form. The department further participates in providing teaching in various forms of lifelong learning and in specialized accredited courses in the field of security.
The main goal is the accumulation of own and acquired knowledge of science and research in the field of protection of persons and property in the preparation of experts in the security industry for state and non-state security forces, in private and state entities and in public administration.
The stated goal is fulfilled by the department through its own scientific and pedagogical activities and also through cooperation with other departments, faculties and universities at home and abroad and experts from practice. Practical requirements are one of the basic attributes when compiling the content of the study program and its individual subjects.
The organizational structure of the department develops depending on the provision of the mentioned study program.
In the field of education, the long-term goal of the department is to ensure teaching in an accredited study program and the innovation of the study program according to the demand and requirements of practice in connection with the possibilities of applying students after graduation (e.g. specialization - criminology, information technology, etc.). The short-term goal is the preparation of documents for comprehensive accreditation. The department will continue to be involved in the solution of international and domestic projects and obtain the necessary funds for the construction and expansion of the safety management laboratory.
The main direction of the development of the Department of Security Management in scientific and research activities is the protection of persons and property. The protection of persons and property is mainly dealt with in the technical and technological field. The main objective is supported by partial solutions from the fields of criminology, criminology, legal and economic disciplines, management, risk analysis and design.
Sub-problems to solve the supporting direction of development are:
• analysis and assessment of security risks in the social environment following the application to
security projects (security assessments of objects, risk analysis, security studies),
• development of safety management theory, including development of professional terminology,
• resolution of crisis situations in the security environment,
• software support, modeling and designing of security systems (security projects,
prevention),
• projects aimed at connecting the security industry and security theory.
The guarantors of scientific development at the department are holders of the scientific-pedagogical titles of professor and docent. The safety management laboratory is used at the department to support the main direction of the department's development in scientific and research activities.
